The Swap Code

The Swap Code is the heart of Travel Swap—a set of essential guidelines designed to ensure every exchange is safe, sustainable, and respectful. By following these rules, you help foster a trusted community of eco-conscious travelers reducing waste, one hotel stay at a time.

Item Guidelines

The Swap Code ensures every exchange is safe, clean, and useful. Follow these simple listing standards to keep our eco-conscious community thriving at every destination.

Quality Standard

Clean & Functional

Items must be in good working condition, gently used, and clean before being listed for the next traveler.

Exchange Log

Accurate Listings

Take clear photos and provide honest descriptions. Highlight any wear or tear so recipients know exactly what to expect.

Community Impact

Relevant Essentials

Only swap items that are useful for other travelers, such as beach gear, local maps, or useable toiletries/travel supplies.

Strictly Prohibited Items

Dangerous & Restricted Materials

Hazardous or illegal materials are not permitted on Travel Swap. This includes explosives, corrosive chemicals, illegal drugs, and other items that may create safety risks during storage, transport, or exchange.

Please follow all local laws and avoid listing items that could endanger other travelers or property.

Opened Food & Personal Care

For health and safety reasons, opened perishable foods, homemade foods and unsanitary items should not be listed.

Unopened snacks, sealed beverages, and gently used personal care items may be shared at each traveler's discretion. Users are responsible for reviewing item condition and deciding what they are comfortable accepting.

Illegal Items & Weapons

The listing of drugs, weapons of any kind (including decorative versions), and items that violate local laws is prohibited and will result in an immediate account removal to protect the community.

Responsible
Sharing

We rely on honest listings, respectful exchanges, and shared accountability between travelers using the platform.

Accurate Availability

After completing a swap, users should mark listings as exchanged in the app so unavailable items no longer appear to other travelers.

Platform Integrity

To help maintain a trustworthy experience, listings that appear unsafe, misleading, prohibited or inappropriate may be reviewed and removed.

Reporting Violations

Maintaining a safe and sustainable community is our top priority. If you encounter a listing that contains prohibited items or witness behavior that violates our Swap Code, please report it immediately through the app. Our Trust & Safety team reviews all reports to take appropriate action.
